1. Old Town Road
"Old Town Road" is a song by American rapper Lil Nas X, first released independently in December of 2018. After gaining popularity, the single was re-released by major label Columbia Records in March of 2019, which now distributes the single. Lil Nas X also recorded a remix with American country singer Billy Ray Cyrus, which was released on April 5, 2019. Both the original and remix were included on Lil Nas X's debut EP, 7 (2019).
The song has been widely labelled as "country rap", a genre that had only become mainstream a year before release. Dutch beat producer YoungKio produced the instrumental and made it available for purchase online in 2018. It features a sample of a banjo from the instrumental piece "34 Ghosts IV" by American industrial rock band Nine Inch Nails. The sample was placed behind trap-style Roland TR-808 drums and bass. Lil Nas X purchased the instrumental for US$30 and recorded "Old Town Road" in one day. At the time, he had been living with his sister after dropping out of college; his real-world struggles served as an influence on some of the lyrics.

The song was written by Grande, Victoria Monét, Tayla Parx, Njomza Vitia and Kaydence alongside its producers Tommy Brown, Charles Anderson and Michael Foster. It contains an interpolation of "My Favorite Things" by Rodgers and Hammerstein, thus both are also credited as songwriters. It was released by Republic Records on January 18, 2019, as the second single from the album.[1] The music video, directed by Hannah Lux Davis, accompanied its release the same day. A remix featuring American rapper 2 Chainz was released on February 1, 2019.

"Shallow" is a song performed by American singer Lady Gaga and American actor and filmmaker Bradley Cooper. It was released through Interscope Records on September 27, 2018, as the lead single from the soundtrack of the 2018 musical romantic drama film, A Star Is Born. "Shallow" was written by Gaga with Andrew Wyatt, Anthony Rossomando and Mark Ronson, and produced by Gaga with Benjamin Rice. The song is heard three times throughout the film, most prominently during a sequence when Cooper's character Jackson Maine invites Gaga's character Ally to perform it onstage with him. The scene was filmed in front of a live audience at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles, California.

"Truth Hurts" is a song released by American singer and rapper Lizzo. It was originally released on September 19, 2017, by Nice Life Recording Company and Atlantic Records, but then re-released as a radio single in 2019. It was written by Lizzo, Jesse Saint John, Steven Cheung (better known as Tele), and Ricky Reed, the latter two having co-produced the track.[1] Lioness, a singer based in London, was credited as a co-writer of the song on October 23, 2019.[2][3]

The song contains a sample from "Gimme the Loot", written by The Notorious B.I.G. and Easy Mo Bee, as performed by the former and an interpolation from "I Wanna Rock", written and performed by Uncle Luke.
Thank U, Next (stylized in all lowercase) is the fifth studio album by American singer Ariana Grande, released on February 8, 2019, by Republic Records.[5][6] Following the release of her previous studio album Sweetener (2018), Grande began working on a new album in October of the same year, enlisting writers and producers such as Tommy Brown, Max Martin, Ilya Salmanzadeh and Andrew "Pop" Wansel. The album was created in the midst of personal matters, including the death of her ex-boyfriend Mac Miller and her breakup with fiancé Pete Davidson.

"Bury a Friend" is a song recorded by American singer-songwriter Billie Eilish. It was released as the third single (fifth in Japan) from her debut studio album When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? on January 30, 2019, and later serviced to American alternative radio on February 19, 2019, by Darkroom and Interscope Records. Eilish and her brother Finneas O'Connell co-wrote "Bury a Friend", with the latter producing it. The song was described as synth-pop and electronica in press reviews, for which hip hop beats, percussion and a synthesizer provide minimalist instrumentation. During the dark and violent lyrics, Eilish sings from the perspective of a monster under someone's bed. Her vocals are subtle and treated with layers of vocal effects.
Upon its release, "Bury a Friend" generally received positive reviews from music critics, several of whom praised its dark nature and lyrics. It was also likened to the music of Marilyn Manson, Lorde and Kanye West. "Bury a Friend" attained commercial success, reaching number one in Sweden and number six in the UK. It further peaked within the top 10 in several countries, such as New Zealand, Canada and Australia. Music Canada awarded it a triple-platinum certification, among others.
